Die Ausstellungsreihe WELTRAUM in der Rathausgalerie ist eine Hommage an Münchens ältesten Projektraum für freie Kunst. Die viel größere Säulenhalle im Rathaus beherbergt eine architektonische Nachbildung im Maßstab 1:1 des echten WELTRAUMS. Hier werden, wie sonst auch, im wöchentlichen Wechsel neue Ausstellungen gezeigt.
Für die sieben Gruppenausstellungen, bei denen insgesamt rund 100 Künstlerinnen und Künstler beteiligt sind, haben diese eigens neue Arbeiten entwickelt, die im Zusammenhang mit dem WELTRAUM stehen.
WELTRAUM – 7 exhibitions – a hommage to one of the best known offspaces in Munich. The space has been rebuilt in scale 1:1 in the much bigger gallery in the town hall. For the groupshows there artists develop works relating to the “WELTRAUM”.
„Copy that!“, die Bestätigung, dass man eine Mitteilung registriert hat, kennt man z.B. aus Filmen über Weltraumfahrten. Sie beschreibt aber auch den Arbeitsmodus von Albert Coers: Mit Fotografien der Installation „A‑Fin“ (2015) im „Weltraum”, einer Collage von Fotokopien, sind Formen der Wiedergabe erprobt, Installationsansichten und „Originalkopien“ kombiniert. Fragen nach der Art der Reproduktion und des Maßstabs spielen dabei eine Rolle. Sie lassen sich damit auch beziehen auf den Nachbau des „Weltraum“ insgesamt. Ausgangspunkt ist die Idee einer subjektiven Rekonstruktion der legendären Bibliothek von Alexandria, die selbst aus Kopien bestehender Bücher entstand. Die Assoziationen aus Bildern und Texten kreisen um die Bedeutung von Orts- und Eigennamen, wobei Mehrdeutigkeiten immer wieder auftauchen, gibt es doch weltweit viele Städte mit dem Namen „Alexandria.“ Die Navigation durch Bibliotheken, Sprachen, Bilder, Zeichensysteme folgt teilweise der alphabetischen Systematik einer Enzyklopädie, von „A“ bis „Fin“. Eine Kopie ist gehängt, weiße Punkte lassen an einen Blick ins Weltall denken.
“Copy that!”, the confirmation of having receipt a message, is known from movies on space travel. It describes the approach of Albert Coers, too: With photos of the installation “A‑Fin” (2015) in the “Weltraum”, a collage of photocopies, modes of reproduction are tested, installation views and “original” copies combined. This can be referred to the reproduction of the Weltraum itself. Point of departure is the idea of a subjective reconstruction of the legendary library of Alexandria, which arose from copies of existing books. The associations of images and texts circle the meanings of names of places and persons, often generating equivocations, as there are many cities with the name “Alexandria”. The navigation through libraries, languages, images follows in some parts the alphabetical systematic of an encyclopaedia, from “A” to “Fin”. One copy is displayed on the wall, white dots make think of a view of the outer space.
