Posen, NAPRZECIW Gallery, Poznan

12./13.10.2014, 12–16 h, NAPRZECIW Galerie Poznan

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose / by any other name would smell as sweet“ claims Juliet. But our world and our memory is shaped by names and words. Point of departure for Albert Coers is the incidental Name of Poznan, “Posen” in German that evokes “pose”, “to place” but also “to assume an attitude”. This can be connected to the place of the exhibition, within the Art Academy, where positions and attitudes play in many ways a central role. Similar to the approach in his project ENCYCLOPEDIALEXANDRINA (2008/09), Albert Coers creates from photocopies made in libraries in Poznan a collage of texts in various languages and images that explore the meaning of names and words, constructing with relish connections.

The project is supportet by the Foundation for German-Polish Cooperation.
