PANORAMA, Münchener Secession in der Berchtoldvilla Salzburg, 2025
Für die Ausstellung mit dem Titel PANORAMA, also einem weiten, allumfassenden Blick, schien mir eine Arbeit mit gefundenem Bildmaterial von 2016 passend: Welt, einer der umfassendsten Begriffe, die es gibt, dargestellt als Wort der Gebärdensprache. Ich hatte das Bild gefunden in einem Lehr- und Übungsbuch der Gebärdensprache, erschienen 1985 in Berlin (Ost). Mir gefällt die Reduktion des großen Wortes auf einen Kreis, beschrieben durch die Hände — und die Bildästhetik der 1980er Jahre.
Ich hatte die Arbeit erst einmal gezeigt, 2016, in der Ausstellung “essentials.” im Haus der Kunst, München.
For the exhibition entitled PANORAMA, meaning a broad, all-encompassing view, I thought of a work with found footage: “World”, one of the most comprehensive terms there is, represented as a sign language word. I found the image in a sign language teaching and exercise book published in 1985 in Berlin (East). I like the reduction of the big word to a circle, described by the hands—and the visual aesthetics of the 1980s. Sometimes I am asked if it is me making the sign…
